Barry Reese

Barry Reese:  For the first 11 years of my life I was raised in a non-Christian home.  My father was hard-working, but was also a hard-drinking man.  This all changed in 1959 when both my mother and father accepted Christ as their Savior in the Assembly of God Church in Cleona, Pa.  One year later in the summer of 1960, I also accepted Christ as my Savior.  Immediately I became involved in the church’s music ministry by joining the youth choir, singing solos and playing my guitar.  I met my lovely wife, Jeanne in March of 1970 and married her in September of 1971.  We have three wonderful daughters and 6 grandchildren.  In addition to my God-given gift for writing and performing gospel music, the Lord has given me a heart for missions which is also shared by my wife, Jeanne.  Because of this burden the Lord has laid on our hearts, we not only support the Southern Baptist Missions Endeavor, but also missionaries from other churches in the countries of Costa Rica, Zambia, South Africa, Belgium, and Russia.

Jeanne and I have moved our family up and down the east coast, but have finally settled for good here in Maryland.  At least that is God’s Plan for now.  He has been so good to us and despite health challenges we feel blessed in all ways.  We have been blessed with our church family at Faith Baptist Church where I serve in the choir, as deacon, and most recently with my brothers and sisters in 7th Voice.  Singing with this wonderful family of Christian singers is for me an answer to prayer.  They are truly my brothers and sisters in Christ and it was He who brought us together, molded us, and continues to lead each of us individually and collectively in the way we should go.  In the words of the songwriter, “Every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before”.

Psalm 108 verses 1 through 5 (NIV) reveal my heart for the Lord and music.

1 My heart is steadfast, O God; I will sing and make music with all my soul.
2 Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn.
3 I will praise you, O Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples.
4 For great is your love, higher than the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies.
5 Be exalted, O God, above the heavens, and let your glory be over all the earth.
